Apple has confirmed its long-rumored foldable phone. The iPhone Duo is official, and it marks Apple’s first attempt at a book-style folding design.
A screen that folds without a big crease
The iPhone Duo opens into a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display, while a 5.4-inch screen sits on the outside for quick tasks. Apple says the hinge was built to keep the crease as flat as possible. The inner and outer screens both support ProMotion and an always-on mode, and both work with the Apple Pencil.
Built to survive daily folding
Durability was a big focus. The frame uses grade 5 titanium, and the front is covered in Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says resists scratches three times better than before. The Duo also carries an IP68 rating, so it can handle dust and accidental splashes just like a regular iPhone.
Same chip as the Pro line
Inside, the Duo runs on the A20 Pro, the same chip found in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Apple says it delivers up to 35 percent better sustained performance than the chip in last year’s iPhone 17 Pro. That extra headroom should help the phone manage two active displays without overheating during longer sessions.
Price and release date
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, with storage options going up to 2TB. Apple is also offering a monthly payment plan of $83.29 over 24 months for the base model.
Pre-orders open on Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time. The phone officially launches on Friday, October 23, in more than 70 countries and regions.
With the Duo, Apple joins Samsung and other manufacturers that have sold foldable phones for years. The difference is the price tag and the ecosystem behind it. Whether that’s enough to convince buyers who have stayed away from folding phones so far is something we’ll only know once real-world reviews start coming in.
