How to Try On Clothes in ChatGPT Before Buying

What you need before starting

  • A ChatGPT account, free or paid, since Try On is part of the global shopping rollout rather than a paid only feature
  • A clear selfie or full body photo of yourself, saved somewhere easy to upload
  • A few minutes to check your data settings first, since uploaded photos can be used for model training unless you opt out

ChatGPT’s Try On feature lets you preview clothing on your own body before buying anything, and it works through ChatGPT’s normal shopping results rather than a separate app.

Step 1: Search for something you’d actually buy

Ask ChatGPT to find a piece of clothing the way you normally would, by style, occasion or a specific brand. Shopping results that support Try On will show the button directly next to the product.

Step 2: Tap Try On and upload your photo

Tap the Try On button on any eligible result, then upload a selfie or full body photo when prompted. ChatGPT generates an image showing that item on you, using the Images 2.5 model behind the scenes.

Step 3: Try items from outside ChatGPT too

You’re not limited to ChatGPT’s own search results. Upload a screenshot of an item from any website, or a photo of an outfit you saw on someone else, including a celebrity, and ask ChatGPT to simulate wearing it or find something similar you can actually purchase.

Step 4: Save what you like to Favorites

Any product worth remembering can be saved to the Favorites Library inside the app. Saved items keep their try on image attached, so comparing several options later doesn’t mean redoing the upload each time.

Step 5: Check your data settings before you upload more photos

Go into ChatGPT’s settings to see whether image uploads are being used to improve OpenAI’s models, and opt out there if you’d rather they weren’t. Reference photos can also be deleted from settings afterward. Worth knowing too: the generated image is a preview, not a guarantee, OpenAI itself says Try On results may not accurately reflect the real product or confirm that an item will actually fit.
